CMX Chat’s Ultimate 150-Word Writing Challenge: Write, Engage, and Connect

During March, we begin our monthly Writer’s Challenge. March is: 150-word writing challenge. One Rule: it must be exactly 150-words, no more, no less (title not included). Our Writer’s Room on CMX Chat and our Writer’s Channel on Discord will be the submission zone for all entries.

Unquestionably, our aim is to help writers/bloggers/creative minds have a platform that they can set their creative juices flowing, and give them a chance to chat and collaborate. This is a philosophy we strongly believe in.

Additionally, the winner of the 150-word writing challenge has a choice of 1 of 3 prizes to choose from and to make sure each submission gets the recognition it deserves, we will publish ALL submissions on this blog.

Community Threads to Compelling Narratives: The CMX Chat Writer’s Challenge

Undeniably, CMX Chat is dedicated to helping uplift members of the writing community and give them a safe and social place to share ideas, gain inspiration and meet like-minded people. Instead, imagine being between paragraphs, chatting with friends and over-coming writers block. Our ‘Question of the Day’, which is site-wide, gets chins wagging and helps gain perspective from all over the world on cultural, societal and sometimes, down right bizarre situations. Certainly, as a writer, this has made me think outside the box! Plus, no longer do I have the need to open another tab on my screen, our built-in AI tools act as a wonderful dictionary and thesaurus, which I have found to be profoundly advantageous!

***OUR WINNER!!! Congratulations TOPHI!***

Tophi – “Untitled”

As I drift away, I have time to think.

There had been time for terror, despair. There was pleading, disbelief, rage. Those kind of emotional highs can’t be maintained for long. Certainly not for the four hours it had taken me to drift ten meters from my tether.

Whatever debris had ripped through it had severed my oxygen line.  I look at my wrist. 2 minutes remaining.

I think about what I had seen, and what I missed. What I will miss. I was lucky, really. I had seen the sun rise on a dozen horizons. For the hundredth time, I wish I was facing the opposite direction, away from the cheap satellite I was working on. I wanted to watch one more sunset.

I undo the seal on my glove. A hiss, then cold. Slowly, I turned. The escaping air my fuel. The sun sets, on my final horizon.

A peaceful, yet melancholic submission here that really has you gripped. Well done!

Our other fantastic 150-word writing challenge submissions (this was updated throughout the month):

FunkyJuz – “The Woman I Love”

What can I say about the woman I love?

Kind hearted, angelic, sent from above.

She fills my heart with warmth and joy,

She is funny and fun and doesn’t annoy.

Together we make the best team,

A relationship others could only dream.

Her smile tells me everything will be okay,

I love waking up beside her every day.

When this grown man cries and gets down,

My beautiful wife erases my frown.

There’s comfort in her kisses and her hugs,

She fills my heart with warmth, like cosy rugs.

The sound of her voice brings soothing vibes,

A gentle melody that my soul subscribes.

Her touch, a symphony of gentle strokes,

In her embrace, every worry evokes.

She is the best wife anyone could ever design,

An awesome step-mum to my little sunshine.

She keeps us safe, loved and well,

Our blended family, a story to tell.

~

So, if that doesn’t get this user a cup of tea made in the morning, I don’t know what will! Lovely!

Rozi11 – “The Question.”

She was before me, as if she had always been. Blonde hair, like Rapunzel. Cerulean blue eyes peering into mine – oddly, almost identical. It was the beginning of our new world, a refreshing start of wonder and dreams. Her tiny hand always in mine – mine always in hers. The years flew in quickly and though her hand was no longer tiny, it was still always in mine. I cherished each moment, as I knew she did too. Bedtime stories; mandatory monster checks below the bed and early morning scurries to school. She copied my every move, my facial expressions and the lilts of my voice. The question was asked many times and I, mercifully, always took the reigns. Until today. A proud smile graced her face and before I retorted, she beamed, “no, this is my step-mum – I was never in her tummy but I am always in her heart”.

~

Evidently, Disney got this step-mum wrong in this 150-word writing challenge. What do you think?

Cupid – “Untitled”

In the dimly lit room, Sarah clutched the old journal, its pages yellowed with age. She traced her fingers over the faded ink, memories flooding back. Her grandmother’s stories captivating her, transporting her to distant lands and magical realms. As Sarah flipped through the pages, she stumbled upon an entry she hadn’t seen before—a tale of adventure and bravery. It spoke of hidden treasures buried beneath the ancient oak tree in the village square. Excitement coursing through her veins, Sarah grabbed a shovel and dashed outside, the moonlight guiding her. With each dig, her anticipation grew until finally, her shovel struck something solid. Heart pounding, she uncovered a gleaming chest, its contents sparkling in the moonlight. Tears of joy filled her eyes as she realized she had uncovered not just treasure, but a piece of her grandmother’s legacy—a reminder that magic is found in the most unexpected places.

~

Imagine finding buried treasure from family. Incredible.

Crisp – “Untitled”

In the lush green meadows of England, a determined snail named Robert embarked on a brave expedition to his cherished France. Through meandering pathways and bustling villages, he encountered a multitude of captivating individuals—a wise and aged tortoise, and a compassionate farmer who provided refuge from the rain.

Robert’s heart overflowed with gratitude for the friendships he forged, with each encounter bringing him closer to his desired destination. However, as he approached the familiar aroma of his homeland, tragedy befell him. In an abrupt and unforeseen moment, Robert’s journey came to an abrupt halt beneath the foot of an oblivious traveller or the beak of a hungry bird.

Although Robert’s delightful voyage concluded in sorrow, his spirit persevered in the memories of those he touched. As the sun descended below the horizon, his tale whispered through the meadows, serving as a reminder of the transient beauty of life’s wanderings.

~

I loved reading Robert the snail’s voyage… even if it did end sadly. Ouch!

OGTombKing – “Untitled”

If it was any other day, you could have confused the noise with rain, or even a storm in full swing. But it wasn’t any other day. And I had the unfortunate pleasure of watching through the ash covered glass, as my world crumbled around me. To many i was thought of as a monster for my research, and to few i was considered a fool for trying, though they would have never said it to my face. I am the Duke of Gibea, and my experiments to learn and educate those around me about the human anatomy is complete. Not because the world has nothing else to learn, and not because i have nothing else to research. But because there are those who fear what it takes to continue fighting for the greater good. I pray that i can convince myself it’s truly rain before it is all over.

~

The fight for the greater good continues… Another fantastic submission.

Mellow5670 -“Inception”

In the depths of cyberspace, a user conceived CMX, a Discord server, birthing a virtual community where minds entwine. Within its inception, layers nested—a microcosm of inception within inception.

As members joined, they found themselves drawn into a labyrinth of discussions and camaraderie, each interaction a inception of its own. Yet, within this virtual inception, deeper connections formed, dreams within dreams, as individuals shared passions and forged bonds.

Amidst the bustling channels, another inception unfolded—a creative inception where ideas spawned and flourished, resonating through the digital corridors. In this nested reality, the lines blurred between imagination and existence, each thought a universe unto itself.

And so, within the inception of CMX, layers upon layers emerged—a testament to the complexity of human interaction and the infinite possibilities of the digital realm. In this nested inception, the essence of community transcended boundaries, echoing through the vast expanse of the online universe.

Amazing! A wee nod to CMX Chat here too, we are biased, but we love it!

Skye – “His Inner Demon”

I need to run as fast as I can. I saw two dead bodies a couple minutes ago. It was a fresh murder. I can still smell the fresh blood following me into this dark forest. What am I doing here? Why am I here in the first place? Whom am I running from? I need to rest; I run quite far from the murder. Am I safe enough here? I look around to see if someone is following me or if the murderer is behind. No one was there; I sat for a while and rested. Then a voice came running from my head. “Will you run? Or stay? The cops are here,” says the tiny voice in my head. I opened my eyes, and to my surprise, I was holding a knife tinted with blood. That’s right, I killed those two a while ago. “I will kill them.”

Dark and mysterious…ooft! What a twist! I need more info…
