Celebrating Love Through Words: CMX’s Valentine’s Writer’s Corner Event

As Cupid’s arrow sets it’s sights, Valentine’s Day brings a stir in our hearts and a flutter in our connections. Searching for that myself, and wading my way through the romance in the air, I discovered CMX—a chat site that became my sanctuary, where words weave bonds of companionship.

A Warm Embrace from the CMX Community

This site is dynamic and ultramodern, but the heart of it and the lifeblood is the CMX community. The connection was immediate, their welcome as comforting as a shared blanket in February’s chill. Real people who’s excitement for building connections mirrored mine.

As a writer, the cherry on top of this delicious CMX sundae was the writer’s room, where short stories, poetry and advice are in free flow.

The Valentine’s writing competition was not just an event; it was a celebration of affection and artistry, a space where I found my online family. Here are some of the fantastic submissions.

Unveiling the Heart’s Echoes

Creativity cascaded in this competition, from the tender confessions of love’s comfort as seen in this beautiful poem:

“Home” by ‘mellow5670

In the quiet whispers of twilight’s embrace,
Where shadows dance and stars find their place,
There blooms a love, tender and true,
In the heart’s garden, where dreams renew.
Your eyes, twin lakes, where secrets hide,
Reflecting the depth of the soul inside.
In every glance, a universe untold,
In your embrace, all fears unfold.
Like petals unfurling under morning’s kiss,
Our love blossoms, an eternal bliss.
Through storms and sunshine, hand in hand,
Together we walk, across the shifting sand.
In the symphony of our hearts’ sweet song,
Two souls entwined, where they belong.
Through laughter and tears, side by side,
In love’s embrace, we forever abide.
So let the winds whisper, the oceans sigh,
Our love endures, reaching heights so high.
For in your arms, I’ve found my home,
Forever cherished, never to roam.

This talented writer captured the essence of finding solace in a loved one, a sentiment that resonates so strongly with the spirit of the season.

“Whispers of the Soul” by ‘bigsmok12

Some writers chose to give a nod to the legendary poet, Rumi, reminding us that love’s presence is felt just as strongly in silence and solitude as it is in grand declarations. A fitting reminder while we scroll our social media on the big V Day:

I choose to love you in silence
For in silence I find no rejection
I choose to love you in loneliness
For in loneliness no one owns you but me
I choose to adore you from a distance
For distance will shield me from pain
I choose to kiss you in the wind
For the wind is gentler than my lips
I choose to love hold you in my dreams
For in my dreams you have no end

“The Beauty Within” by ‘ghostx.28

One poignant piece peeled back the layers of external beauty to reveal the yearning for deeper recognition and genuine appreciation – the search for true love and the ridding of shallow behaviours:

She knew she wasn’t bad looking
But she wasn’t dumb
She saw how the boys would turn to her blonder skinnier friends
She was the average sort of pretty
So to compensate
She learned how to dress
How to apply makeup
How to act according to the male gaze
She became quite familiar with the following routine
‘You are so pretty’ he sends
Types with fingers that have touched so many girls
Ugly girls; gorgeous girls
Big girls; little girls
You are so pretty he says
He doesn’t even attempt to make it look like he was looking at her face
Eyes on her chest
What he really means is ‘shes pretty enough’
Speaks with the mouth that is hungry for every part of her but for what inside her
Throws what’s beneath her skin to the floor
Her personality was getting in his way of seeing just her body
“You’re so hot” he whispers
Don’t call me hot
She thinks to herself
Look into my eyes and call me beautiful
But no one does
So she wears the shirt that makes him look down and say
“You are so pretty”
A word she doesn’t think she would have been called if he didn’t look down
But no matter what she wears
They always look down don’t they
And once the clock strikes midnight
He will ask her to come over
“You are so hot” he repeats
And she will fake a smile because
Being called hot distracts her from the reality
She has not once been called beautiful without looking down
That without looking down boys wouldn’t even see her
On the way home from her house her fake smile turns into real tears
She looked in her rearview mirror and she no longer saw the average sort of pretty
That she was labeled mediocre but someone who was simply ugly
Maybe because her beautiful parts were on his bedroom floor
A body stripped from its breathtaking mind and heart
If only he had held them gently-studied them intensely
Then maybe he would have realized that the girl he bruised was a work of art.

A Tapestry of Love and Loss

This entry, wove a complex narrative of love’s lifecycle, from it’s blooming beginnings to it’s inevitable transformation. It speaks to us all and takes a twist on the usual Valentines spirit.

“Around My Heart” by ‘thatoneblueguydave

Roses are red
Our love is dead
Magnolias vary
As do most flowers
No one is spared
From love’s potent powers
Onwards we move
Rare is it kept
More do we suffer
While feeling inept
Everyone grows
Everything falls
Perilous rose
Intended for all
Numbing pain
Gutted by thorns
Sail me away
To the furthest of shores
Only there’s no escape
Ravenous fleur
Marigolds, azaleas, daffodils or
Violets are blue
Our love was true
I thought it was though
Cause now that we’re through
Eternity seems like hell without you
Singing of when, I held you close
Touching, tasting, I miss you most
Hours, days, months go by slow
Over the rainbow, under the stars
Reality floating and passing by mars
Nothing about it makes any sense
Screw love, I’m building a fence.

Love in Stanzas

This poetic entry by Magivictus beautifully writes of dreamy eyes seen during late nights.

The days when sleep won’t heed night’s call
while listening to music, peering at the sky
upon heavy eyes which moonlight did fall
I pondered ruefully, and awaited that lullaby

But one cherished night, restless lying in bed
I pitched my head up, and from my shock I did rise
wondering why the town was so quiet and dead
when my speech was bereft just meeting her eyes

Disbelieving at first, certainly my mind deceived
she must be a goddess who’s taken human disguise
surely my wakefulness had been just reprieved
drawn to her, immersed, I scrambled to confirm my surmise

I soon realized, it seemed, my surmise was wrong
she moves with elegance, her presence defines radiance and grace
voice gentle as snow yet warm as a hearth so strong
laughter like sunshine’s brilliant embrace

really, there’s just one thing to tell
to warning sounds of the bell:
I fell quite hard, to my surprise
for ___ – the angel with the star-like eyes

‘A Rose Unseen’ by ‘Neptuneprime

This writer twists the narrative of this rhyming Valetine’s Poem, striking loves’ missed opportunities.

A rose is plucked from morning mist
And sent to thee instead a kiss
To represent what you have missed
A love you say cannot exist.

But wait, I really must insist
This love you say cannot exist
It really truly does exist
It’s really more than morning mist.

So what then should I do, desist?
And let this love that can’t exist
Vanish like the morning mist
A rose unseen, its beauty missed.
