Spring Poetry: A Renewal of Words and Community with CMXChat

Tulips Spring Poem

We have discussed several times now what CMXChat is all about, but I’ve said it before and I will say it again – Community, Collaboration and Creativity. The month of April represents Spring – growth, renewal, the birth of something new. Well at CMXChat, that isn’t just in the flowers around us and the lambs frolicking in the fields, it’s about new interactions and the growth of our community. So, to develop that, we introduce our Spring Poetry Competition!

From William Wordsworth speaking about “being amazed by the sight of ten thousand daffodils by the bay”, describing them as “dancing in the breeze”

TO

tripping over the mouth movements of Shakespeare “April hath put a spirit of youth in everything,”

OR

E.E. Cummings describing spring’s rainy days as “a world of puddle-wonderful”

Spring has been intertwined in poetry across the ages. So now, it’s your turn to make a seasonal poetry creation. If you are stuck for inspiration or you are battling writers block, here are some inspirational words to get the creative juices flowing:

  • Rebirth
  • Awakening
  • Blooming
  • Renewal
  • Growth
  • Freshness
  • Greenery
  • Rain showers
  • Sunlight
  • Longer days
  • Daffodils, tulips, cherry blossoms
  • Verdant
  • Sprouting

As with all our writing competitions, all of the entries will be published here with the winning poem being chosen after 25th of the month. Sharing your work, whether it is poetry or short stories, gives writers a chance to build a portfolio, gain feedback and develop friendships with like-minded people. Collaboration is key!

Oh dear spring how you make me free

I love seeing the cherry blossom trees every day

I sing that one day you’ll make me free

and I can’t help but cry when I see you leave

oh dear spring stay with me

oh you sing so lovely come one and sing with me

I LOVE YOU SPRING

I love when you bring rain showers to me

I love you dear kyler

you always set me free

I know I have been mean lately

I’m sorry so please dont leave me

yay you stayed with me

know I am happy as can be

so this will be the story how we meet

I love you very much dear spring

and now it’s time for you to leave

thanks for being here for me spring

bye bye spring

I’ll still remember your ring.

‘Spring Awakening’ – FunkyJuz

Air warms morning breeze,
Bitter cold gale flees.
Multiple layers no longer required,
The big coat, now retired,
Hotter days drawing near,
Summer sun’s gleeful cheer.

Flowers flourish, bright and gay,
The sun’s warm and gentle sway.
Yellow, bright blooming daffodils,
Outshines winters greying shrills,
Daisies, tulips and lilacs bloom,
Mother nature’s fertile womb.

All around, animals labour,
Nature’s cycle, never to waiver.
Newborn lambs restock the flock,
Otters return to swim the loch,
Calves graze on the meadow,
Seasonal blues begin to mellow.

Among the floral blossom petals,
Bees sip from their sweetening vessels.
Buzzing, chirping and fluttering wings,
Samples of sounds, the season brings.
Lawnmowers roar, early rise,
Inspiring horticultural enterprise.

Smokey scents seduce tastebuds,
Igniting cravings in fiery floods.
Garden gatherings in full swing,
Parties laugh, dance and sing,
Light nights, lighter beer,
At long last, Spring is here.
